PATIO CLEANING
Bring your patio back into focus.
From porcelain terraces to weathered natural stone, a suitable cleaning method starts with the paving material, its joints and its condition.

A FRESHER FINISH
Make room for more time outside.
Patios are living spaces, not just paving. Shaded corners, winter algae and garden debris can make an outdoor seating area feel tired even when the rest of the garden is well kept.
We consider whether the patio is porcelain, sandstone, limestone, concrete or another material. Different finishes respond differently to pressure and cleaning agents, so a surface-specific approach matters.
WHAT WE CAN ASSESS
Common areas and surfaces.
Suitable work, subject to inspection
- Concrete and many manufactured paving slabs
- Natural stone with an appropriate method
- Edges, steps and connecting walkways, where accessible
Things worth knowing
- Some stone and grouting are sensitive to pressure or chemicals.
- Lichen and deep-set marks can be resistant to treatment.
- Plants, furniture and drainage need to be considered before work.
BEFORE WE QUOTE
A useful quote starts with a few details.
Tell us approximately how large the area is, what it is made of, how it is accessed and whether there are stains, loose joints or existing coatings. Photographs can be arranged separately if needed.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions about this service.
Can you clean natural stone?
Often, but method selection is especially important. We would ask about the stone and its condition.
Will pressure washing remove black spots?
Black spot lichen may require specialist treatment and sometimes cannot be fully removed.
Should furniture be moved first?
Please discuss what can be moved and what should be protected before the appointment.
PATIO SURFACES & FINISHES
Restore usable outdoor space without treating every stone the same
Patios often contain a mix of paving, mortar, grouting and planted edges. Algae can make sheltered spots slippery, while dark patches may be embedded dirt or natural variation in the stone itself. A suitable clean aims to improve the surface without unnecessarily disturbing its finish.
Porcelain and ceramic paving
Porcelain is usually comparatively low-porosity, but textured finishes and joint materials still need care. The objective is to remove surface deposits without unnecessarily eroding grout or forcing debris into surrounding beds.
Sandstone and other natural stone
Sandstone, limestone and certain older slabs may be susceptible to aggressive pressure. The condition of the paving and any sealant affects the technique. Natural colour variation, weathering and historic staining may remain after cleaning.
Grout, pointing and edges
Weathered mortar, polymeric joints and borders often respond differently from the centre of the slab. Areas of missing pointing should be identified before work; a cleaning service should not be presented as a repair to failed joints.
A clear photograph of the whole patio and a close-up of the paving material are particularly useful for an initial quotation. Please mention raised planters, delicate planting, furniture, fixed lighting and external sockets.
Move lightweight pots and furniture where practical, but do not attempt to move heavy items unsafely. The cleaning plan should allow for water reaching adjacent walls, doors and drainage channels.
Cleaning can reveal existing wear, chipped edges or colour differences previously hidden by dirt. If you are considering sealing the patio afterwards, the suitability of the surface and the drying conditions need to be assessed separately.
SERVICE QUESTIONS
Two more things worth knowing
Will pressure washing remove black spots from patio slabs?
Some dark spots are biological growth; others are embedded staining. Removal varies with the surface and treatment permitted, so no universal result can be promised.
Can you clean near flower beds?
Adjacent planting and soil can affect the method and whether any cleaning products are appropriate. Mention vulnerable plants during the quotation so they can be considered.
